HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT
1 WEEK BEFORE
If medically appropriate for you, avoid nonessential products or supplements that may increase bruising, such as alcohol, fish oil/omega-3 supplements, vitamin E and certain herbal supplements.
Do NOT discontinue aspirin, anticoagulants, prescription medications, or any medication recommended by your healthcare provider solely for this appointment. Always speak with the prescribing healthcare professional before changing a medication.
Avoid scheduling dental procedures, vaccinations, invasive facial treatments or other procedures close to your filler appointment unless cleared by your treating provider.
If you have an upcoming dental procedure, surgery, medical procedure or vaccination, please let us know before your appointment.
24–48 HOURS BEFORE
For clients who can safely do so:
-
Avoid alcohol.
-
Avoid strenuous exercise immediately before treatment.
-
Avoid unnecessary supplements known to increase bruising.
-
Drink plenty of water.
-
Avoid aggressive exfoliation, waxing, chemical peels, laser treatments or irritating skincare around the mouth.
-
Keep the lips moisturized and intact.
DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT
Please arrive with a clean face and clean lips whenever possible.
Avoid heavy makeup, lipstick, lip liner and lip products around the treatment area.
Eat a normal meal before your appointment and stay hydrated.
Please tell your provider about all medications, supplements, allergies, medical conditions, previous cosmetic procedures and recent illnesses during your consultation.
COLD SORES / FEVER BLISTERS
If you have ever experienced cold sores, fever blisters or oral herpes, tell your medical provider before treatment.
Lip filler can potentially trigger a recurrence in susceptible individuals. Your provider can determine whether preventative antiviral treatment should be considered.
If you currently have a cold sore, active infection, open wound, rash or irritation around the treatment area, your appointment may need to be postponed.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER LIP FILLER
Temporary reactions are common following lip filler.
You may experience:
-
Swelling
-
Bruising
-
Tenderness
-
Redness
-
Firmness
-
Temporary lumps or bumps
-
Mild asymmetry while swelling resolves
-
Sensitivity at injection sites
Your lips may look larger or more uneven immediately after treatment than they will once completely healed.
Initial swelling commonly improves over the first several days, although bruising or residual swelling can last longer. Final settling varies by individual and product.
LIP FILLER AFTERCARE
Unless your treating provider gives you different instructions:
FIRST 24 HOURS
-
Avoid rubbing, pressing or massaging your lips unless specifically instructed by your injector.
-
Avoid strenuous exercise.
-
Avoid excessive heat, including saunas, hot tubs and very hot showers.
-
Avoid alcohol when possible, as it may worsen swelling or bruising.
-
Avoid unnecessary pressure on the treated area.
-
Keep the area clean.
-
Apply a cool compress gently as directed if needed for swelling.
FIRST 24–48 HOURS
Avoid unnecessary makeup or potentially irritating products directly over injection sites until the skin has closed and irritation has subsided.
Avoid aggressive facial treatments, exfoliation or manipulation of the lips.
Try to sleep with your head slightly elevated the first night if swelling is significant.
FOLLOWING TREATMENT
Follow all personalized instructions provided by your medical professional.
Do not attempt to massage, manipulate, puncture or "fix" a lump or area of swelling yourself. Contact our office if you have concerns about your healing.
